As you may have noticed, the a-Rab magazine has not printed an issue since December 2007. Fret not, we're still around, we're still a-Rab's, and we're still doing a-Rab things. We're just in the middle of a transitionary period at the a-Rab. This has occurred for a number of reasons: - a magazine takes a lot of work, money, and sweat to produce! We're not dead, and we're not disappearing. Keep your eyes open, because we're in the middle of changing the format of our publication, its organization, as well as its productions. We will be back. The third issue of a-Rab magazine is ready. Click on the cover image below to visit the table of contents and the full online edition. The printed copies should be ready by Nov 27, so stop by the Students for Justice in Palestine on campus if you're in Berkeley. If you want to distribute a-Rab magazine on your campus, send an e-mail to distribution@a-rab.net for more information. Our next issue will be for January/February 2008. The biggest problem we've been running into so far is a shortage of funds; if you can help out, please consider making a small donation by clicking the button on the right. Alternatively, if you know of any potential businesses that may be interested in advertising, let us know by sending an e-mail to advertise@a-rab.net. We will also be posting information shortly on how to purchase a subscription or make arrangements to have the a-Rab magazine shipped to your campus for distribution. We will also have new positions open at the magazine. Make sure to check back soon! Don't forget to join our Facebook group here and subscribe to our mailing list by sending an e-mail to a-rab-subscribe@lists.riseup.net. a-Rab the second, our October issue, is here. If you are in Berkeley, you may be able to pick up a hard copy near the Students for Justice in Palestine table on Sproul Plaza at UC Berkeley; or, you can contact one of the editors to meet in person and pick one up. Try yaman@a-rab.net or husam@a-rab.net. We may also be at the Mearsheimer and Walt talk on the 26th or the Leila Khaled film screening on the 23rd. If you'd like to get involved in our next issue, please make sure to submit your material by November 5, 2007! We also have positions open on our all-volunteer staff, so if you'd like to get involved either as an advertising agent, a layout designer, a website editor, a distributor, or any other capacity, please drop us a line. Who is afraid of the Arabic language? Enough people to drive Debbie Almontaser, aspiring principal of a new Arabic-themed public school in New York, out of her job. Almontaser was loosely "connected" (read: she shared office space) to a group that produced a benign t-shirt with the words "Intifada NYC" on them. The a-Rab (pronounced ay-rab), a new Arab youth publication, is finally ready to accept submissions from the public. For the past several weeks, we have been working to thoroughly develop our philosophy and purpose. An answer to the question "What is the a-Rab?" can now be found on the about page. The a-Rab is looking for people with graphic designing experience who can help us out in creating logos, page layouts, and web page themes. If you can help, please contact admin@a-rab.net. The a-Rab is coming soon. Keep your eyes open and report any suspicious activities. |
